FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The questions we actually get asked.
Costs, timelines, platforms and what happens once the site is live. If yours is not here, ask us and we will answer it properly.
Pricing.
Website costs vary depending on complexity, features, and scope. A simple marketing website typically starts from $3,000 to $8,000 NZD. E-commerce sites and web applications range from $8,000 to $25,000+. We provide detailed quotes after understanding your requirements.
Yes. For larger projects, we offer milestone-based payment plans. Typically this is a deposit to begin, a mid-project payment, and a final payment on completion. We are flexible and happy to discuss payment arrangements.
Process.
A typical website takes 4 to 8 weeks from kickoff to launch. More complex projects with custom functionality, e-commerce, or integrations can take 8 to 16 weeks. Timeline depends on the project scope and how quickly you can provide content and feedback.
No. Every website we build is designed and coded from scratch. We do not use pre-made templates, Elementor, Divi, or any page builders. This gives you a faster, more secure, and completely unique website.
Yes, you will need to provide the core content for your website including text, images, and any specific information about your business. We can help guide you on what content is needed and can assist with copywriting if required.
A website redesign includes a full review of your current site, new design concepts, development, content migration, SEO preservation, and launch support. We make sure your existing search rankings and links are maintained during the transition.
Our process starts with understanding your business and goals. We then create wireframes, followed by high-fidelity design mockups for your review. Once the design is approved, we move into development. You are involved at every stage and have the opportunity to provide feedback.
Services.
Yes. We build online stores using WooCommerce on WordPress or custom e-commerce solutions. This includes product management, payment gateway integration (Stripe, PayPal, Windcave), shipping setup, and checkout optimisation.
Web design focuses on how a website looks and feels: layout, colours, typography, and user experience. Web development is the technical build: writing code, setting up databases, building functionality, and making everything work. We do both.
Our primary focus is web design and development. For branding and logo design, we can recommend trusted partners. However, we do ensure that your website design aligns perfectly with your existing brand identity.
A web application is an interactive tool that runs in a browser. Examples include dashboards, booking systems, customer portals, and data management tools. Unlike a standard website, a web app has complex functionality and often requires user authentication.
Yes. We offer WordPress hack cleanup services. We scan your site for malware, remove all malicious code, patch vulnerabilities, and implement security hardening to prevent future attacks.
Technical.
We build on WordPress with custom themes or Next.js depending on the project. WordPress is great for content-managed sites. Next.js is ideal for high-performance websites and web applications. We recommend the best platform for your specific needs.
Yes. If your site is built on WordPress, you can update text, images, and pages yourself using the admin dashboard. We provide training on how to manage your site. For Next.js sites, content updates depend on how the site is structured.
Yes. We offer secure managed hosting for WordPress and WooCommerce sites, including sites we did not build. Every site sits behind our own web application firewall with off-site backups and round-the-clock monitoring. Agencies can host their clients with us under their own brand. For Next.js and static sites we still recommend a platform like Vercel, and you own the account. See the hosting service page for detail.
Absolutely. Every website we build is fully responsive and tested across all major devices and browsers. We design mobile-first, which means the mobile experience is a priority, not an afterthought.
Yes. We regularly integrate websites with CRMs, email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign), booking systems, payment gateways, analytics tools, and other third-party services.
We follow security best practices including SSL certificates, secure hosting, regular updates, strong password policies, and code sanitisation. For WordPress sites, we implement additional security measures like firewall rules and login protection.
For most content-managed websites, we recommend WordPress with a custom theme. It is mature, well-supported, and gives you full control over your content. For high-performance or highly interactive sites, we recommend Next.js.
SEO.
Every website we build includes an SEO-ready foundation: proper heading structure, meta tags, fast load times, mobile responsiveness, and clean code. For ongoing SEO work like keyword targeting, content strategy, and link building, we offer separate SEO services.
Support.
Yes. We offer website maintenance plans that include regular updates, security monitoring, backups, and support. Maintenance is optional but recommended, especially for WordPress sites that need regular plugin and core updates.
After launch, we provide a support period (typically 2 to 4 weeks) to address any issues that come up. We also offer ongoing maintenance plans for continued support, updates, and improvements.
Yes. When we hand over a WordPress website, we provide a walkthrough of the admin dashboard and how to make common updates. We can also provide written documentation or video guides if needed.
General.
Yes. While we are based in Christchurch, we work with clients across New Zealand and occasionally internationally. Most of our communication is done via email and video calls, so location is not a barrier.
No. We do not lock anyone into long-term contracts. For ongoing services like maintenance and SEO, we work month to month. You are free to leave at any time. We believe in earning your business through quality work.
Get in touch via our contact page or email us at hello@webscape.co.nz. Tell us a bit about your project and we will set up a call to discuss your needs, timeline, and budget. From there, we will provide a detailed proposal.
We build everything from scratch. No templates, no page builders, no shortcuts. Every line of code is written for your project. We are a small, focused team that cares about quality and long-term results, not just getting a site out the door.
